Delimara Power Station.

Proto+ was engaged to produce a highly detailed 3D visualization of the Delimara Power Station (DPS) in Marsaxlokk, Malta. This project served as a critical visual tool for explaining the complex LNG-to-power infrastructure that feeds Malta’s 400 MW base-load generation capacity.

The Process

Visualizing a site of such national importance required a rigorous data-gathering phase. Our team referenced topographical maps, satellite imagery, and technical specifications of the power plant’s Phase 3 and Phase 4 (CCGT) units.

The most challenging aspect was the digital reconstruction of the Armada LNG Mediterrana. Using marine architectural data, we modeled the vessel’s specific Moss-type spherical storage tanks and the intricate jetty infrastructure. We paid particular attention to the "spread mooring" system and the regasification interface, ensuring the connection between the maritime vessel and the onshore power plant was technically accurate.

Deliverables

Precision 3D Industrial Models

Accurate representations of the power station’s stacks, turbines, and the specialized LNG jetty.

Scale Visualizations

Comparative views demonstrating the scale of the 125,000 m3 FSU in relation to the existing Delimara infrastructure.

Environmental Photomontages

High-resolution renders placing the industrial models into the actual context of Marsaxlokk Bay, accounting for local light conditions and sea-state textures.

Infrastructure Layouts

Clear visual breakdowns of the gas flow path from the FSU through the regasification unit and into the combined cycle gas turbines.
